Review Methodology
How We Test Web Hosting Providers
Our reviews are grounded in real-world testing over extended periods. Here is a detailed breakdown of our methodology.
Testing Environment
For each hosting provider, we set up a standard WordPress website with a popular theme, several common plugins, and sample content. This provides a consistent baseline for comparison.
Uptime Monitoring
We monitor uptime using third-party monitoring services with 1-minute check intervals from multiple geographic locations. Our published uptime figures reflect actual measured availability, not provider claims.
Performance Testing
Page load times are measured using standardized tools from multiple locations. We test both cached and uncached page loads to provide a complete performance picture.
Support Evaluation
We contact each provider's support team at least five times during the testing period, using different channels (live chat, email, phone where available). We evaluate:
- Response time
- Technical accuracy
- Friendliness and professionalism
- Problem resolution effectiveness
Feature Assessment
We test every major feature advertised by the hosting provider, including:
- Control panel usability
- One-click installers
- Backup and restore functionality
- SSL certificate deployment
- Migration tools
- Staging environments (where available)
Scoring Criteria
- Performance (20%): Page load times and server response
- Reliability (20%): Measured uptime and consistency
- Support (20%): Response quality across channels
- Value (20%): Features and performance relative to price
- Ease of Use (20%): Setup process and daily management
The overall score is a weighted average of these five categories.
